Interview with MitsukiShiroi!
Since learning of the existence of Itachi and Sakura as a pairing, I’ve been searching a long time for fictions. When I stumbled upon MitsukiShiroi’s trilogy and her newest AU, I couldn’t help but ask her a couple of questions to get some more insight into her brilliant mind.
First of all, thank you for your time, MitsukiShiroi!
Haha, no problem at all!
So, tell us, how did you get into Naruto?
A few years ago, I was at my friend’s house and while we dyed another friend’s hair, we decided to watch some anime to kill the time. I’d heard of Naruto beforehand, but I usually dislike really popular series for some odd reason, so I never thought it may pique my interest.
I saw up to the point where Sasuke just throws all of his weapons at Kakashi and quit there. I thought it was a comedy series, so I didn’t think too much of it. It took me an entire year to actually sit down and see some more episodes. Of course, then the Haku and Zabuza arc started and I was hooked. Drama is my thing!
What inspired you to write for the Naruto fandom, and in particular, Itachi and Sakura?
Funny story actually. I got into Naruto just as the second part started in the manga. To be precise, Gaara had just started fighting with Deidara, so you can even count back how many weeks I’ve been a loyal fan now.
The entire Uchiha massacre enthralled me for some reason and I love the crack pairings. For some odd reason, I thought that Itachi might look good with Sakura. I googled them and surprisingly enough found a handful of fictions on fanfiction.net. I read a one-shot by Wicked Innuendo, and I was hooked, wanting to write something of myself.
Sasuke’s death popped up in my head and I kept on thinking about what it might do to Sakura and Itachi. That’s when the entire plot for Metamorphosis appeared. I opened up word and I kept on writing.
What do you like best about ItaSaku?
So many things! Haha. I personally enjoy drama, so the idea of Itachi and Sakura together was incredibly appealing. It would have betrayal, from Sakura’s side, anger from Sasuke’s side and who knows what Itachi might be thinking about it all. It’s illogical and will never happen and I guess that’s what attracts me to them so.
You ship SasuSaku as well, right?
I do, but I do like ItaSaku best. They’re my OTP.
Tell us about how you work when it comes to writing?
I have a very unorthodox way of working actually. I envision the beginning and ending, and a couple of scenes in between and let the characters fill up the gaps inside of my head. They ‘live’ there as real life people and I only record what happens to them.
Is there anyone on this community that you look up to?
It’s always been CelticOak. From the first minute I started reading her fictions, I was like ‘yes’ and understood that this was a fantastic writer (and an even better friend!) I also adore Tea Leaf. I think Hindsight’s 20/20 by her is absolutely amazing and mindblowing. Apart from those two, I don’t really look up to anyone. I barely read fanfiction and I can count all the authors I’ve read something from on my hands even.
Then please do!
I knew this was coming! Haha, CelticOak and Tea Leaf, obviously. Klayter McCabe, Resmiranda, KittyLynne. I’ve read Leafygirl’s KakaSaku fictions and Loophole up to halfway through. Phantomica’s works, NesMikel, Wicked Innuendo and Wicked Enough.
I’ve read more fiction of course, but these ones are the ones I’ve basically read most or everything of.
Are there anymore ideas floating around in your mind for future ItaSaku fictions?
I’m currently working on one of my older fictions that I published once and removed it a couple months afterwards because I thought I might never finish it. Also, I still have the supersecret ItaSaku story I had in my mind a while ago and might work that one out as well.
Can you give us a tiny hint about that supersecret project?
… Starts with a ‘D’!
That’s not helping!
Hahaha, I know!
You were critized a lot a while ago, if I read up correctly. Any comments about that?
Not really. It’s all behind me right now. I lost a lot of readers because of certain situations, but I’ve gotten a full apology from one of the people that critized me a lot and that helped. People can think whatever they want of me, I know who I am and that I’m not as they think I am.
And the lists?
Recommendation list is for friends only on my livejournal, disapproved list is only for the ones I truly trust on there. Both those lists will not be public again.
Now, off to better subjects. Your ending to the Metamorphosis trilogy was incredibly unexpected. How were reactions?
Varied, really. Most of them were positive, people were crying, saddened it was over, saddened about Sakura. Some of them thought it to be a shame that it didn’t end with a bang and others thought that it sucked.
It was to be expected though, I never expected everybody to love the ending. But that’s how it goes in life. There’s a certain irony that went through Sakura’s life and it reflects even in the end.
What was your favorite arc?
Salvation. I just loved shocking everybody.
You had certain unexpected twists in the trilogy. Which one was best received?
Hahaha! I had several ‘explosions’ when it came to reviews for certain chapters. It started in Evolution with Sasuke’s death, then continued with Deidara’s death (that might be the biggest one), then the next chapter where Deidara is actually alive.
In Salvation, people freaked during the first chapter when they realized that it wás Deidara. Also, in the chapter where Itachi was revealed to be blind, I’ve gotten numerous reviews, the ninth chapter and the final one of course.
After looking it up, Itachi’s blindness was the biggest shocker. I got 172 reviews for that chapter.
What was your favorite part of the trilogy?
… Wow, that’s a hard question. The ending, probably.
And now Twilight, how did that happen?
Originally, I had the idea of writing about an organization opposite to Akatsuki, but I thought it would be fun to write it with someone else. Back then, I got to know Phantomica, whose fanfiction I had just read and I really liked it. I hesitantly asked her and she accepted.
After a while, I introduced the idea of the organization and we started planning for about a year. We were about to start but Phantomica stopped writing just about then and I started Twilight on my own. We planned some things different, but the general concept is still there. I just gave it my own spin.
What does Hakumei mean?
Twilight. It’s double really. Hakumei is opposite of Akatsuki, which means dawn. Hakumei is also the Japanese name for Twilight as a fiction.
How many chapters are left for Twilight?
I’ve published up to chapter six as of now, so there are probably two to four chapters left.
Will Kimimaro return?
Who knows!
Thank you for your time! I’m sure we’ll all have a lot to look forward to!
You’re very welcome!
